Frequently Asked Questions
What is Inclusive Design Works?
Inclusive Design Works is a collaborative project led by accessibility champions at Google. Our aim is to educate creative technologists about inclusive design and inspire creators to build more accessible products.
How does it work?
The Inclusive Cards are a deck of playing cards that inspire creative problem-solving through inclusive design. They aim to raise awareness and build empathy for contextual and permanent disabilities.
What is the difference between accessibility and inclusive design?
Accessibility is when you specifically and intentionally design for people with disabilities. Inclusive design considers the wide-ranging aspects of human diversity, including disabilities, gender, culture, environment, and other factors. Inclusive design is not just designing one way to interact with the world—it takes into account all of the varied ways we interact with the world at any given time.
What are contextual and permanent disabilities?
A disability is when your contextual conditions restrict or impair your interactions with the world around you. Disabilities are not always linked to personal health conditions—a disability can be temporary, situational, or permanent.
How many people have disabilities?
More than 1 billion people have some form of disability. But we all may experience disabilities throughout our lifetimes as a result of environmental or social barriers. It’s important to identify and remove the conditions that limit anyone’s ability to participate in an activity or experience.
